What a day!! what a day!!, the excitement and anticipation for authors and books was terrific!. there were little known authors and well known authors. There was poetry and prose, and life and light heartedness, there were celebrities and local favorites. Here at RHistory we were beyond impressed at the level of professionalism and graciousness from the staff, those attending and of course the honored guests.
You can travel the concourse and find a wide array of literary works, from Science, Contemporary life, History & Biography and even Books to movies. We listened to the uplifting and enlightening interview with Shonda Rhimes, whom instructs "those that want to write, write all the time, everyday", She provided that "day in the life" scenarios that made you realize that she is us and us is she. The success was due to perseverance, not a lucky strike and to use ones skills, is only part of the job. You must hone it, cultivate it and share it.
Gene L. Yang who provides a cartoonist and teacher, that started "American Born Chinese" which host stories with Asian-American protagonists. He brought a diversity stance of openness and exceptance to a crowd of diverse people from books to comics, absorbed his thoughts and awareness.
Holly Robinson Peete provideds information, stories and clips about her family and especially her son, born with autism. We watched and gained not only and understanding or at the very least a comprehension of what autism is and what it looks like. But as she states autism can be diverse and ever winding stating " if you meet one person with Autism, you have not met them all" Her sons triumphs and the family's faith, strength and openness was shown in picutures, illustrated in books and heard in her words. It was an extremely inspirational moment and grateful to have witnessed it.
Stephen King!! Yasssssss.... he was there!! providing yet more insight into his minds eye of what makes Stephen King, Stephen king. It doesn't matter if you not in that genre of books, but for writers, his longevity, creativity is impressive and awe-inspiring.
Great time and an enjoyable moment for the entire family. Hope you made it and experienced just as much of not more. Hope to see you all next year, till then read a book... dammit!!!
